Some qualities we want people to demonstrate in a community are A 1.They maximize peoples strengths 2.Balances the needs of everyone 3.Teamwork 4.Mobilize others/ make everyone do a fair amount of work. B 5.Contribute as a leader 6.Practise stewardship/ Responsibly act when situations go. 7.Think forward and ahead C 8.Be optimistic even when situations look bad 9.Recruit and mentor new community members. Help them fit in 10.Walk beside and not from above. Act like a normal citizen and not a king or queen. Explore the idea of community. Who or what belongs to a community? What is not part of a community? Who belongs to a community? People that share either a geographical location such as a neighbourhood or similar interests/beliefs such as a religious group. What belongs to a community? Resources, the environment and capital resources belong to a community. These all belong to the community and should be taken care of and maintained. What does not belong to a community? Some objects and buildings do not belong to a community. What would happen if we wake up tomorrow and no one wants to volunteer? All ill and in need patients will go without medical treatment. This could lead to an increased mortality rate which can be exponential to a communities survival. There would also be a lot of diseases and illnesses brought back into existence. Explore the idea of community. Who or what belongs to a community? What is not part of a community? Anyone can be a volunteer if they have training within the field they are volunteering for. When volunteering you will receive the vital training needed for your volunteer work. Can anyone be a valuable member of a community? Anyone can be a valuable member of the community and benefit the community. Anyone can help to clean the environment of plant new trees. These tasks don’t take much training and can be completed by any member of a community. A community looks like a place on the earth that humans reside in and socialize in. We all come to a place to talk and play in a place of community. It can be a garden or a whole town but community means somewhere you enjoy being in. How might a volunteer benefit from the work that they do? Volunteers are widely view as gaining nothing back from their work but there is a huge range of benefits that volunteers get. For example you can make amazing new people and make new friends that you would usually have never made. When you have done this you start to learn how to connect with others and will learn lots of valuable social and relationship skills. Another benefit is that it is good for your mental health and your body. It gives you a great dose of self confidence and self-esteem. It also combats depression by making you talk to people so you cant suffer from social isolation, you are also very close to the helplines every step of the way. And it is very fun! How can a teenager in St Helena contribute positively in a community? Teenagers in general get a bad reputation straight off of the bat, most people think that they provide nothing to society but a lot of teenagers contribute many positive thing to their community. For example they can talk with leaders and discuss issues. They can also help out elders and minors but most people don’t let them because of the stereotypical teenagers. Find a quote that embodies the idea of community. Explain why you have chosen this. There are two main morals in this quote from Mitch Ablom (A TV Host, voice actor, play writer, author, and Active community volunteer). The first is the message about being devoted and committed to your community. Everything you do for your community, should be the best you can do, otherwise there is no point in being a part of that community. The second is to be committed to creating something that is meaningful and has purpose. Research ways that our community is supported.
