Transcript: Helping people that... Why these issues? Because lives are more important than anything! Suicide Suicide takes the lives of nearly 30,000 American's each year. An average of 1 person dies by suicide every 16.2 minutes. There are an estimated 8-25 attempted suicides to every 1 completion. Yellow Ribbon is the current school organization to help people having suicidal thoughts. We urge people to talk to us and to use their Yellow Ribbon cards. Self-Harm * 8%of middle school students have self harmed at least once. * 1 in 3 people who self-harm will do it again within a year * 1 in 10 people self harm * people who self harm are 50 times more likely to commit suicide 15% of high school students have self harmed at least once. 20% of college students have self harmed at least once. T-W-L-O-H-A- To Write Love ON Her Arms, is a non profit organization that aims to educate people on the issue of self harm and wish to end it. They hold concerts, benefits, and do anything to get the word out. Depression 121 million people worldwide suffer from depression. 30% of teens with depression will develop a substance abuse problem. Untreated depression is the number-one cause of suicide. Talking to people and medicine are the only ways to help with depression. The major reason why we need to incorporate these issues into our 24 coins is because these issues can co exist. Lives are being abruptly ended, and nothing matters more than saving lives. Co Exist- Depression can lead to self harm which can lead to suicide. Self harm can lead to depression which can lead to suicide. These issues do not always co exist, but in most cases they do.
