Transcript: Time Management Scheduled contingency time by showing up early to set up in case any problems arose.Used cell phone for quick reminders to volunteers Elements of communication: Using the medium firstclass, tasks were delivered efficiently When determining methods for trivia scoring it was important that communication made it all the way back to the feedback stage. This provided valuable insight from all those involved. Challenges: Conflict Management conflict management technique: Collaboration was key to establishing how scoring should be done for trivia night. Deciding how to set up the score sheet was debatable, but through brainstorming ideas we decided to use a spreadsheet to be turned into a leader board. Having been unable to come up with this on my own collaboration played a crucial role in setting up the score board. Person vs self was most likely the most prominent type of conflict during trivia night. Lasting close to three hours continuing to move efficiently was optimistic. Though the natural tendency would be to slow down as the night progressed, I ensured that my volunteers were motivated to continue collecting and marking score cards. Define a team mission Communicate vision and establish goals Develop a code of ethics Establish roles utilize Members Strength Manage conflict successfully Celebrate the success of the team The team developed a sense of group think, but we were invincible. Suggestions: I would suggest when picking volunteers for a fun event to find friends and people you like so you may enjoy the night as well. Benefits: helping out a good cause, gaining experience as a leader and having a fun night. Was it positive? The experience was definitely positive because everyone worked as a team and had a common goal. What I learned: I learned how to collaborate effectively, how to better motivate volunteers, how to communicate tasks/goals, how to manage time and lead effectively. Communication: Pick 1 item from the list of 6 Use specific concrete examples Confidence and Humility Summary/Conclusion Sketches BOH4M Leadership June 11 2013 Position: Master Score Keeper Keys to Group Success Supervisor: Judy Hubbard Organization: Trivia Night Autocratic: - Tasks were simple so I made decisions the group had to work with. -The volunteers were very cooperative and had no problem with my authority. - My requests were repetitive like that of a drill sergeant. Thought and feelings: The experience really gave me a sense of how to coordinate an event and how to establish tasks ahead of time. It felt good to be able to motivate my friends in helping out for a good cause while having fun. This was a positive experience and would likely do it again. I showed Confidence and Humility in planning the event and during the event. I decided it was more efficient to log the scores directly into the computer rather then create a paper copy to be transferred. This showed confidence. Humility was shown when I allowed Mr. Pagotto to create a spreadsheet that could be used as a leader board. This allowed for better representation of the participating trivia leaders. Duties: Keeping Score Responsibilities: managing score keepers and collecting data Tasks: acquire volunteers, operate spreadsheet Time Involved: 4 weeks Where: School When: March 21, 2013 Trivia Night! By Matt McColeman Trivia night provided both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards for my volunteers. While they were able to acquire some of their 40 volunteer hours they also enjoyed the night itself. Having fun with their friends and seeing who could mark the fastest provided prompt motivation. My volunteers immediately had shared norms and a group cohesiveness. Once completed the 7 steps to creating a successful team ie. Summary/Conclusion Leadership style
