How many years have you been working at Galaxy? Did you work at other diners before? How would you describe the atmosphere of Galaxy? Did you go to diners growing up? Do you have a favorite regular customer who comes in to Galaxy? To prepare for filming and the questions I'm going to be asking the interviewee's, I've gathered background research about Galaxy and diners in general: Galaxy has been open for 33 years Slogan is "Your home away from home" The origins of the diner can be traced to Walter Scott, in providence, Rhode Island who sold food at night from a horse –drawn carriage This progressed from wagon car food to railroad car restaurants, which became diners "The thing about this democratic counter is that anyone can go in and sit down. It can be a professor, it can be a worker," "The attraction of the diner is that it's a sort of a midway point between the street and home," Paradoxically, the diner is about loneliness and isolation as well as down-home hospitality. To establish a social norm of recycling in bars, we did a survey of 30 patrons at Crazy Horse on Tuesday, March 24th. Results have been tallied and will be reported to managers at Crazy Horse to create social pressure, along with information on recycling options. Kicking Glass and Taking Names Social Norm Progress Update Survey Results 1. Would you prefer to frequent a bar that recycles your glass and plastic materials rather than a bar that does not recycle?
