The Mafia was a gang made of many different families, that at sometimes fought each other in bloody gang wars. The Mafia was known for smuggling beer, wine, and hard alcohol all over the country. People in mafias usually wore fedoras to look threatening. Men in mafias and a lot of other men wore double-breasted jackets. The jackets also had padded off shoulders that attracted men to buy them. The Mafia used all kinds of weapons. From the Tommy gun, to the Spring Grease. They even used the old fashion baseball bat to beat people. Tommy gun The Tommy Gun was used as a hand held machine gun that shot 1,200rpm (rounds per minute). The Tommy gun was favored by soldiers, police, civilians, and the mafia. Spring Grease The Spring Grease is a sub machine gun that destroys anything in its path. Shoots 150 fps (feet per second). The Spring grease was made to replace the .45 caliber Thompson series. Assassination of William McKinley Take It Or Leave It Stephen Caracappa was born in 1942. He worked as a part of the NYPD's organized crime homicide unit. He was promoted to the rank of detective in 1979. Corruption In 1903, he arrested Vito on suspicion of murder. Bad Cops Petrosino still left on his mission as scheduled, under the impression that the Sicilian Mafia would not kill a policeman, Just as the American Mafia did not. Lieutenant Giuseppe "Joseph" Petrosino Murder of James Hydell Murder of Nicholas Guido Murder of John “Otto” Heidel Murder of John Doe Murder of Anthony DiLapi Murder of Bruno Facciolo Murder of Edward Lino Murder of Bartholomew Boriello Murder Conspiracy of Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano Racketeering Extortion Obstruction of Justice In the 1990's, Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa retired from the NYPD and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. However, the two were still involved in Mafia activities, conspiring to murder Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano after he testified against the boss of the Gambino crime family, John Gotti. The Beginning Stephen Caracappa: Beginning In December of 1908, Petrosino was promoted to lieutenant of the Italian Squad... Petrosino was born in Padula, a small province of Salerno, in 1860 In 1874, the Petrosino family emigrated to America Joseph then joined the NYPD in 1883 1895, Roosevelt promoted him to detective sergeant in charge of the department's Homicide Division Busted! The Black Hand and Enrico Caruso A Fatal Error Good Cop Louis Eppolito was born on July 22nd, 1948 in Brooklyn New York. His father was Ralph Eppolito, a member of the Gambino crime family. His uncle, James Eppolito and cousin James Eppolito Jr. were also made members of the Gambino family, so he was introduced to the Mafia lifetyle early in life. He applied to the NYPD in 1969, omitting the fact that he was related to any known members of organized crime, and he was eventually promoted to the rank of detective. Fighting Against the MAFIA Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa ...an elite corps of Italian-American detectives assembled for the sole purpose of dealing with the criminal activities of organizations such as the Mafia Against corruption Against organized crime Against injustice Petrosino convinced Caruso to help the Italian Squad find those responsible for the blackmailing. Working with the Mafia ...While waiting for the informant to arrive, Petrosino was shot to death by Mafia Assassins. In the end, Petrosino died doing what he though was right- fighting against the Mob Over 250,000 citizens attended his funeral service Today, Joseph Petrosino is listed as an NYPD angel A small plaza just north of the old NYPD Headquarters at 240 Centre Street in Manhattan was renamed in his memory Petrosino's investigations into Mafia activities led him to Don Vito Cascioferro. On March 12, 1909, after arriving in Palermo, Petrosino received a message from someone claiming to be an informant, asking the detective to meet him in the city's Piazza Marina to give him information about the Mafia... Louis Eppolito: Beginning While working with the Italian Squad, Petrosino infiltrated the anarchist organization responsible for the assassination of King Umberto I of Italy During this mission, he received evidence that the group planned to assassinate President McKinley as well He in formed the secret service, but the president did not believe his story Vice President at the time, Roosevelt spoke highly of the knowledge of Petrosino and bade the President listen to the warning MiKinley disregarded the advice and was killed by Leon Czolgosz during his visit to Buffalo's Pan-American Exposition on September 6, 1901 Eppolito and Caracappa were arrested in 2005. They were charged with counts of racketeering, obstruction of justice, extortion, and eight counts of murder. All of their appeals were overturned and both men were sentenced to life in prison. In the end, Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa are going to be spending the rest of lives behind bars because they chose to use their NYPD badges to work with the Mafia rather than against it. The money they gained certainly must have made it seem appealing at the time, but the imprisonment along with the over four million dollar fines as part of their sentence truly prove that crime doesn't pay. In 1909, Petrosino made plans to travel to Italy after the Don. Police Forces Siding With The MAFIA In 1986, Eppolito and Caracappa kidnapped James Hydell, an associate of the Gambino crime family to be murdered by Casso as retaliation for an attempt on his life. They also had a hand in the murder of Bruno Facciolo. Facciolo was lured to a garage and killed by Louis Daidone, Eppolito, and Caracappa because Eppolito and Caracappa reported that Facciolo was an informant.

They have control over labor unions as they form their own unions or place someone from their mafia organization to be on he lookout. They can only be defeated or controlled if a body as lethal as it is established. For example: SOS impresa in Italy was formed to control the effect the mafias were having on people. Al Capone America's best known gangster and the single greatest symbol of the collapse of law and order in the United States during the 1920s leading role in the illegal activities that lent Chicago its reputation as a lawless city. Most famous killing was the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. The Godfather Mario Puzo’s movie ‘The Godfathers’, gives people an idea of how the Italian American mafia ran their affairs and how ruthless they could be. The mafias are so ruthless thus their victims and those around them assume they do not exist so that they are able to get through another day alive. Civil and Criminal cases show that they indeed exist. According to history, Calabrian Ndrangheta and Sicilian Cosa Nostra are the most powerful and largest mafia associations.
