Many notable figures are also remembered for their work, Joseph Swan & Hiram Maxim. Is the Light bulb still used today? Of course, The light bulb changed the world in many ways, changing society for the better, making it brighter. It also brought other appliances into the home. Such as the oven and microwave. What most people and myself didn't/don't know Edison didn't design the light bulb independently, he perfected the early versions with the combination of three factors an effective incandescent material, a high vacuum, and high resistance that made power distribution. Edison is often credited with the invention because his version was able to outstrip the earlier versions other scientist produced light, but it didn't last long and was much to bright for practical use. Inventors were continuing to make small advances, improving the filament manufacturing process and efficiency of the bulb. The light bulb is an electric lamp with a carbon filament. Scientist were trying to invent a way to use electricity to light your house the old style of lighting candles, lamps, and lanterns were dangerous. They caused plenty fires back then. Back in 1878-1880. Transcript: Light Bulbs The differences between Florecent and Incadecent light bulbs are that the incandecent bulbs makes light by heating a metal filament wire to a high temperature until it glows, which uses a lot of electricitie. Florecent bulbs use electricity to excite mercury vapors inside the glass. Then theres a short-wave of ultraviolet light that makes a phosphor to fluoresce, producing visible light, which use less energy because it doesnt have to create heat. A florecent light that has 9-12 watts has the equal amount of light output as a 40 watt incandecent light bulb. Compared to a normal incandecent light, the florencent light bulb will save up to 30$ in the bulbs lifetime, will la ten times longer.

What we Use CFL and LED After asking around, we discovered that Chef Cole and the others who do any sort of purchasing, aren't really concerned when it comes to lights. The cheapest is the best. Cheap incandescent lights for the hood vents, the specific projector bulbs, and whatever we can lay our hands on for everything else. CFL lights are probably the most recognizable bulbs, with the twisted bulb. Typically, they can last between 6,000- 15,000 hours. 10,000 is the average. That boils down to 5,976 days, or a little more than 16 years In our Bradford School, we use regular incandescent light bulbs. Joe and I have been researching various lights that might result in the conservation of energy, as well as money for our school. LED lights are more complicated and scientific but they are even more efficient than CFL lights. The maximum life span of an LED light is 50,000 hours, or 11 years if 12 hours a day Regular incandescent lights last a short amount of time and need replacement often. CFL: lights use a little less, ranging at about 6-8 watts, and resulting in about 630 kilowatt/hours per year. Other Options Obviously, incandescent lights are not the only option out there. In terms of energy saving, there are two other extremely popular options. CFL- Compact Fluorescent Lamp, and LED- Light Emitting Diode. Energy Usage LED lights use about 13-15 watts, in turn using roughly 760 Kilowatt/hours per year. Heck yea we should! To start with, the LED and CFL lights would be more expensive, but because you wouldn’t have to buy them nearly as often, the end result is much cheaper than regular fluorescent light bulbs. Also, the lower wattage would result in a much cheaper electric bill. Intro

Calumet New tech High School freshman's class for science has been working on the deference's between the old and new light bulbs. Like how much they cost how much money you would save if you switch, also how to make the world more efficient. But why are you making the grown ups have to buy more expensive light bulbs what if they can’t afford them then that was not right. To also say one more thing i could careless about what light bulbs we use. My name Is Jonathan Harper, freshman. Even though if you buy the newer light bulbs in the future you will save a decent amount of money which is cool. Lights are brighter but very dangerous if you break it open which could be a problem, why would they create a light bulb that can hurt or worse kill someone. But their is a better side like the money that you will save can buy new things for their family. I would vote against it because i don’t want to break one while i’m sleeping and die in my sleep with the older ones they weren’t dangerous and not bright but at least you felt safe in you house at worst if they break you would get cut by glass. Are a variation of incandescent light bulbs. Gives off light known as “white light” because the kind of light they project are the closest to natural daylight compared to other light bulb options available. Compared to incandescent bulbs they a more energy efficient however, are more expensive and burn at a higher temperature. Halogen light bulbs are commonly used in under cabinet lighting, pendant lights and recessed cans.  Humphry Davy-->Was the first scientist in 1803 to create the arc lamp. He created this lamp using volts from a battery. This produced light greater than one thousand candles.  James Bowman Lindsay-->Was the first person in 1835 to contain an electrical charge inside of a glass bulb. Although his creation was highly unreliable during the time it was still a major contribution to Edison’s creation of the electric light bulb. Paris, France-->Although Paris, France is a city it did however perform something that was unconventional and unthought-of at the time; it attempted to light their streets with electric street lamps in 1841. They performed this using Humphry Davy’s Arc Lamp.  Heinrich Geissler-->Created a special tube to use with electricity in 1856. This tube called The Geissler Tube contained an electric charge, and it paved the way for neon and other types of lighting.  Thomas Edison-->He made a lamp in 1879 and followed it with the creation of a 16-watt light bulb in 1880.  Nikola Tesla-->He worked with Edison however branched off to work on creating a wireless electrical lamp in 1893.  Paris, France-->Paris continued to set the stage for electrical advances. They premiered the neon lighting, created by Georges Claude, at the Paris Motor Show in 1910.  Edmund Germer-->Created a lamp for fluorescent lighting in 1926.  The Philips Company-->They created a fluorescent energy saving lamp in 1981. However, wasn’t popular in a middle class home at the time because of the price tag.  In 1991 there was a surge of longer lasting light bulbs. For instance, Edison’s 16-watt light bulb could last 1500 hours meanwhile Philips Company new fluorescent bulb could last up to 60,000 hours.  Shuji Nakamura-->In 1995, he created a new type of lighting using blue and white LED, or light-emitting diodes. This action sparked a LED lighting revolution. What types of light bulbs are there? The Incandescent light bulb Halogen light bulb Fluorescent Light bulb LED Light bulb Fluorescent This kind of light bulb creates a flat, cold light, often described as bluish and harsh. It does create the natural daylight effect similar to the halogen bulb, however it cannot be put on a dimmer. The many types of fluorescent light bulbs are the warm ones, the cool ones and special-colored ones. These types usually produce more light and last longer than incandescent bulbs. Excellent to light large areas such as basements and attics. LED light-emitting diode. This kind of light is long lasting and extremely energy efficient. These kind of bulbs only provide directional light, not diffused light, meaning that their light is focused only in one direction and doesn’t spread around its setting compared to the other types of bulbs. These bulbs are pricier than compact fluorescent light bulbs, ranging in cost from about five to six times more than compact fluorescent bulbs.
