Korean War - Background

Transcript: Affected many people: This would have affected all of Canada, its government, and of course the people on the battleships. Lasted over a long period of time: Although Canada was not involved from the get go they still joined and took a big role in the Korean war. Deep Consequences: The deep consequences were that Canada was brought into battle by the U.N. and that Canada was also made vulnerable with less defense against our home land The End Historical Significance Korean War The U.S. owned part of the Korean peninsula and was being influenced by Russia in an communistic way and the U.S. was influencing them in a democratic way. The Korean War was in June 1950 and about North Korea invading South Korea because of this. During the war the United Nations Security Council asked for UN states to send troops to the region under a UN flag. The huge bulk of the troops sent were American (there were 15 nations that sent troops). Canada at the time was more concerned about defending Canada tried to stay out of the war. The U.N. eventually command that Canada would fight alongside with them and were to send in three Canadian destroyers. Korean War - Background Artifact This is a chunk of metal broken off of one of the three Canadian destroyers (battleships) that went into battle as to help fight alongside with the U.N.

FLAG OF BETSY ROSS The Betsy Ross Flag Organizing separate states and state governments into a united nation. Story Nike halted the release of a shoe featuring the Betsy Ross flag after being advised of its offensiveness by Colin Kaepernick. Nike was reportedly told that the flag was offensive due to its connection to the slavery era of the United States. More recently, however, the flag has become a symbol of white supremacist and nationalist groups. Although not inherently racist, it has been made out to be because of the time period in which it was created. After independence, both North and South Korea adopted versions of the Taegeukgi, but North Korea changed its national flag to a more Soviet-inspired design after three years. Taegeukgi (Korean Flag) Ying and Yang are used to decribe oppisites. Like, light/dark, good/bad, hight/low, hot/cold, fire/ice, evil/saint, and etc. White field with a red and blue taegeuk (wing-wang) in the center and four black trigrams, one in each corner of the flag YING YING-YANG HISTORY Geon -Heaven Ri- Fire Gam- Water Gon- Earth Yin means dark and cold, while Yang means bright and hot. The History The Haitian flag came to be on May 18th, 1803 on the last day of the Congress of Arcahaie. It was said to be created by Jean-Jacques Dessaline. Haitian lore also states that Dessaline created the flag by taking the French tricolor flag and ripping out the white center, which he discarded. He then asked Catherine Flon, his god-daughter, to sew the remaining bands together. May 18th today is celebrated as the Haitian flag day, celebrating the heritage of the people. The First Haitian Flag (1803) The first flag having only the two colors blue and red represent the people. The blue of the flag represents the unity of the blacks while the red represents the mulattoes against the whites. The Meaning of the colors The Evolution Of the Flag The first flag of the Republic. The generals of the revolution decided to change the flag so that the bands are horizontal.
