Transcript: iPads in the English Classroom A Benefit Analysis: Dave Kunkle, English Teacher, Mount Horeb High School Important 21st Century Skills "If I were asked to name the most needed of all reforms in the spirit of education, I should say: 'Cease conceiving of education as mere preparation for later life, and make it the full meaning of the present life.'" --John Dewey, 1893 The successful preparing of students for life after school will be determined by maximizing access to technologies allowing students to work beyond the confines of the classroom and into the digital world where students can explore, can collaborate, and provide real-world experiences. Unfortunately, often the first thing we do as a school is take away those options for the pairing of school life with "real" life. Engaging Educational Apps As developers come to realize the power an iPad can have in a classroom, new, research-based educational apps are being added constantly. Paper Free Classroom Through Evernote and PDF Reader, the English classroom could become paper-free. This is especially important as we have our multi-function printers (which we currently are only using the copy function) and extremely tight budgetary concerns. FREE BOOKS! (and other goodies) There are currently 23,469 free, downloadable classics. In addition, there are hundreds of other apps (not to mention future apps) perfect for use in the high school classroom. In short, iPads in the classroom are a fantastic educational opportunity like no other. The incredible students at Mount Horeb High School deserve incredible learning opportunities. This is one of those opportunities. Photo/Video/Audio Reading Trainer Entire works of Shakespeare Test Prep
