Transcript: Emily Stowe Early Life Emily Stowe was born on May 1st, 1831. She was born to two successful farmers in Norwich Township, Ontario. Emily's mother home schooled Emily and her sisters. She taught them skills in herbal healing and to love to learn. As a teenager, she worked as an apprentice of a family friend, Joseph J. Lancaster, a homeopathic physician. Early Life Early Career Early Career When Emily turned 15, she started working as a teacher in Summerville, Ontario. (1846) She worked there for seven years. In 1852, Emily applied to Victoria College in Courburg, Ontario. She was rejected because she was a woman. She then applied to the Normal School in Upper Canada. She was accepted in 1853 and with first-class honors, she graduated.(1854) She then accepted a job with the Brantford school board and became the first woman principal of a public school in all of Ontario. Medical Career Medical Career In 1865 she applied to the Toronto School of Medicine bat was not accepted because she was a woman. Emily left Canada and attended the New York Medical College for Women. She returned to Canada and opened a medical practice treating diseases for women and kids. Shortly after, Canada required that homeopathic doctors had to take further training in the United States. She then applied to the University of Toronto for chemistry and psychology. Transcript: Nikola Tesla Nikola Tesla's Education Education Nikola Tesla attended Graz Polytechnic School in 1875 on a scholarship. He attended for threes years before having to drop out. Nikola Tesla's Time in Graz Polytechnic School Graz Polytechnic School During Nikola's first year at Graz Polytechnic School he excelled just as he was expected to but during his second year he picks up a bad habbit, gambling and is forced to drop out after his third year. Although he ended up flunking in the end Tesla’s education and experiences at Graz had a huge impact on his future inventions, as shown in this excerpt from his autobiography. Family Background World War II, also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted Nikolas Family Nikola was born in Atustria-Hungarian Empire in 1856 in an area with mountians of the Balkan Peninsula known as Lika. His father Milutin, and his mother Djuka, were both Serbian by origin. Tesla's father was also a gifted writer and poet. Tesla attended the Polytechnic School at Graz for 4 years and spent a year at the University of Prague (1879-1880). Early Childhoof Of Nikola Tesla Childhood Born in Smiljan, Croatia, on July 10, 1856. His father being an orthodox priest wants his son to follow the same path. But luckily Nikola kept his interest in science. Nikola's Parents Nikola's Parents Nikola's father, Milutin Tesla was born in the village of Raduc on February 3, 1819. His mother, Duka Mandic born in Tomingaj in 1822 she herself was also an inventor who invented things herself such as tools to make clothing and perfected braiders. Inventions Inventions The Remote Control When Nikola invented the remote control he tricked an entire crowd. He made them believe that by shouting commands at a boat they could move it, but actually Nikola had invented the first remote control. Radio Radio is the technology of signaling and communicating using radio waves. Tesla Coil Tesla coil; it is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high frequency alternating-current electricity. Tesla Turbine Induction Motor The Tesla turbine is a bladeless centripetal flow turbine patented by Nikola Tesla in 1913. The induction motor is an AC electric motor uses current to produce torque obtained by electromagnetic induction from the magnetic field of the stator winding. Impact Nikola Tesla's Impact Many of the inventions created by Nikola are still very important in our daily lives still such as the radio, remote control and induction motor. The remote control is something used in your everyday life.

Transcript: Steve single handily invented the Apple I and Apple II computers in the 1970s. These computers he built significantly contributed the microcomputer revolution. Steve Wozniak was born on August 11, 1950 in San Jose, California. He dropped out college in 1975. He is a computer engineer and programmer who founded Apple computers with the help of Ronald Wayne and Steve Jobs. Things he did Steve lives in Los Gatos, California and has three kids. He is worth about 100 million dollars. In 2000, Wozniak was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Transcript: James Watt January 1736 - August 25 1819 in January 1736 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland to Agnes Muirhead and James Watt. James Watt was born... Life Watt’s father, who was the the treasurer and magistrate of Greenock, ran a successful ship- and house-building business. Watt was taught for a time at home by his mother. Eventually, in grammar school, he learned Latin, Greek, and mathematics. His father’s workshops, where, with his own tools, bench, and forge, he made models (e.g., of cranes and barrel organs) and grew familiar with ships’ instruments. This gave him an early opportunity to use his creativity and put them to reality. His father's impact Early life James gave up his plans to go to university. Instead, he trained in London as a scientific instrument maker, specializing in mathematical and nautical instruments. Within two months, his skills were higher than others who had been in training for two years. After a year in London, he found work at Glasgow University repairing instruments for the astronomy department. His professors soon realized Watt in the workshop was way ahead of his peers. They began calling on him to discuss their work. Taking his opportunity Education The steam engine helped pave the way for more advanced modern power sources today. Without the development of the steam engine, you may not have power in your house today since modern power sources wouldn't of been developed yet (without the help of the steam engine) The steam engine today...
