Primary Years I lost interest in religious practices but I ignited an interest in the supernatural and spiritual side of our existence. I believed in the power of spirits and energies. Beginning college I took an Astronomy course, and it had a profound effect on my spiritual beliefs. This is a human eye (all different shapes and colors) next to nebula's (usually planetary- made up of gases and dust); the similarities are almost eerie. Although this is based on Newton's law of conservation; Einstein builds on it by describing the transfer. I believe in some way we, our energies do the same. Adulthood In middle school, I longed to be part of something. I spent a summer researching different religions and practices; settling on an interest in Judaism. I didn't eat pork for a year and a half. Middle Years I attended Catholic mass almost every weekend with my close friends; their mother was destined for sainthood and I was young and impressionable taking in a lot of their beliefs. The main island (Cuba) has 5,746 km (3,570 mi) of coastline and 29 km (18 mi) of land borders Cuba lies west of the North Atlantic Ocean, east of the Gulf of Mexico, south of the Straits of Florida, northwest of the Windward Passage, and northeast of the Yucatan Channel. family & social customs Cuban culture is influenced by its melting pot of cultures, primarily those of Spain and Africa. After the 1959 revolution, the government started a national literacy campaign, offered free education to all and established rigorous sports, ballet and music programs. Cuban music is very rich and is the most commonly known expression of culture. The central form of this music is Son, which has been the basis of many other musical styles like salsa, rumba and mambo and an upbeat derivation of the rumba, the cha-cha-cha. Cuba 59% Christian (mostly Roman Catholic), 23% unaffiliated, 17% folk religion (such as santería), and the remaining 0.4% consisting of other religions. Cuba is officially a secular state. Religious freedom increased through the 1980s,[220] with the government amending the constitution in 1992 to drop the state's characterization as atheistic. Roman Catholicism is the largest religion, with its origins rooted in Spanish colonization. The traditional Cuban meal is not served in courses; all food items are served at the same time. Transcript: Religious/Spiritual Beliefs Religion plays a prominent role in the public and spiritual life of today's Russia. The majority of believers belong to the Orthodox Christian denomination.Many Russian fairy-tales repeatedly refer to the ancient Slavic myth about three underground levels of kingdoms - the highest level of gold, the middle – silk and the lowest level – copper. In each tale a hero meets Tsarevna, who gives him an egg. Then he rolls up each of the above-mentioned underground kingdoms in an egg. Returning from under the earth the hero throws the eggs on the ground and these kingdoms emerge and form the world as we know it today. Another ancient myth is known as the primitive "Chaos Division" into water and earth. It was done by God and his assistant Satan. According to one legend, mountains, swamps and canyons were Satan's doing. Having made the world, God used two fish as a support system for the earth. Native American beliefs are deeply rooted in their culture. They believe EVERYTHING is sacred from the largest mountain to the smallest plant and animal. A lesson can be found in all things and experiences and everything has a purpose. They also believe that their Elders hold the answers. Their Elders keep their culture alive. American Indian Commandments Sacred Instructions Given By The Creator To Native People At The Time Of Creation Treat the Earth and all that dwell thereon with respect. Remain close to the Great Spirit. Show great respect for your fellow beings. Work together for the benefit of all Mankind. Give assistance and kindness wherever needed. Do what you know to be right. Look after the well being of mind and body. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good. Be truthful and honest at all times. Native American Spiritual Beliefs There is widespread belief in a supreme God, unique and transcendent. Africans have a sense of the sacred and a sense of mystery; there is high reverence for sacred places, persons and objects; sacred times are celebrated. Belief in the afterlife is incorporated in myths and in funeral ceremonies. The invisible world of spirits and ancestors is always present and the intentions of these spirits can be ascertained; care is taken to ascertain the will of the spirit to whom sacrifices may be due or from whom protection may be sought. Religion enfolds the whole of life, there is no dichotomy between life and religion. Rites form an essential part of social life. Ancestors and the dead are invoked by rites. The seasonal cycles and the stages of life are sanctified by ritual action. Ritual attention is given to crisis situations. The whole person, body and soul, is totally involved in worship. In worship and sacrifice there is co-responsibility each person contributes his share in a spirit of participation. Symbols bridge the spheres of the sacred and secular and so make possible a balanced and unified view of reality. Rites of passage, of initiation and of consecration are widespread. There are many rites of purification of individuals and communities. The sick are healed in rites which involve their families and the community. Religious sacredness is preserved in ritual, in dress and the arrangements of the places of worship. Some of the traditional blessings are rich and very meaningful. Transcript: Huguenots Salem Witch Hunt Roman Catholics vs. Protestants in Northern Ireland Biblical Figure The Huguenots were French Protestants most of whom eventually came to follow the teachings of John Calvin due to religious persecution they were forced to flee France to other countries in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, but some remained practicing their faith in secret. August 24, 1572, soldiers and organized mobs fell upon the Huguenots, and thousands of them were slaughtered. In 1598, the newly crowned Henry IV issued the Edict of Nantes, which granted to the Huguenots toleration and liberty to worship in their own way, for a time, at least, there was more freedom for the Huguenots Troubled times began with two girls Elizabeth Paris (9) and Abigail Williams (11) the daughter and niece of Revered Paris. The two girls were being "effected" from which-craft diagnosed by the doctor, and many more people followed behind. On June 10 the first to be executed was Bridget bishop of Salem. She was sentenced to being hanged. Most witches were determined by behavior. They "witches" were non-compliant because they were not following the ways of the Church Of England. Paul is a very well know biblical figure. In his early life, he was a proud jew. Later in his adulthood, while he was persecuting christians, he revised and started living a christian lifestyle. He did practices such as praying, worshiping with music, went to church, and much more. During Paul's christian life, he never conformed to the worldly ways. Doing so, he faced many trials. He was regularly in prison, beaten and was killed because of his beliefs. Although he faced all of these horrible things, he never stopped living his christian life. Religious/ Spiritual Practices Symbols Ireland is a Catholic Country. Most people were catholic although many people had ancestors that migrated from England or Scotland to Ireland. Most that migrated were not Catholic. Ireland became part of the UK in 1801. Catholics were mistreated through unfair laws and regulations, they started many uprisings. After a small war an agreement was made and six countries remained in the union with Great Britain. Catholics demanded for for civil rights and equal treatment. Catholics were discriminated, hurt, and even sometimes killed by British soldiers. Both sides were tired of violence, more than 3,500 people had been killed so they began the Good Friday peace agreement.
