Transcript: Free Read PowerPoint Project Judith Rumelt, better known by her pen name Cassandra Clare, is an American author of young adult fiction. Main Characters Summary Prominent literary item Will Herondale-Will has dark hair and ocean blue eyes. Will is rude and cruel because he believes everyone that loves him will die. He believes this because a demon put a 'curse' on him. Tessa Gray- Tessa has blonde hair and grey eyes. She is very witty and enjoys literature. Recommendation of book Setting Jem Carstairs-Jem has silver hair and eyes, due to the drug he was tortured with before his family was killed. He plays the violin and is very kind, caring, and lovable. The most unique thing in Clockwork Angel is that there are supernatural occurrences such as demons, shape shifters, witches, vampires, and werewolves, etc. I definitely recommend Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. I recommend this book because it uses great figurative language, such as "The machine walked like a man." Also, "There was a boy standing in front of her. He couldn´t have been much older than she was-seventeen or possibly eighteen. He was dressed in what looked like workman´s clothes-a frayed black jacket, trousers, and tough-looking boots. He wore no waistcoat, and thick leather straps crisscrossed his waist and chest. Attached to the straps were weapons-daggers and folding knives and things that looked like blades of ice. In His left hand-slim and long fingered-was bleeding where she had gashed the back of it with her pitcher. But that wasn´t what made her stare. He had the most beautiful face she had ever seen. Tangled black hair and eyes like blue glass. Elegant cheekbones, and long, thick lashes. He looked like every fictional hero she´d ever conjured up in her head. Tessa Gray goes to London to live with her brother. When she arrives Tessa is captured by twin sisters dubbed 'the Dark Sisters'. She was tortured and forced to use her gift of shape shifting for evil until Will Herondale rescues her. He then takes her to the institute, a place for shadowhunters to be cared for. Tessa meets the residents of the institute, Charlotte Branwell, the head of the institute, Henry Branwell, Charlotte's husband and inventor of a many great inventions, Jessamine Lovelace, girly and against all things shadowhunter, Jem Carstairs, a kind but very ill shadowhunter. Presentation Themes Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare Most unique thing in the book Presentation by Canaan Hall Clockwork Angel takes place in the institute, and the Dark Sister's home. The institute is an old church with very many rooms for passing visitors. The Dark Sister's house is large but sparsly furnished, in Tessa's room there is a bed with restraints, a mirror, and a nightstand with a few books. The themes for Clockwork angel are; you always need friends that you can trust, don't judge someone by their looks you don't know what they are going through, and even someone you wouldn't expect could be the hero. Cassandra Clare One prominent literary item in the book is personification. Personification is used throughout Clockwork Angel, such as "The machine walked like a man." Another example is, "The door creaked with a noise that sounded like a scream."

Transcript: Kaley Soto Personality Psychology Nova Southeastern University 4/16/2019 Biological Aspects of Personality Biological forces play an imperative role in the development and display of certain facets of one’s personality. Attributes such as temperament, mental illness, and sexuality are all affected by these biological aspects. Introduction Introduction Temperament Temperament Temperament can be described as “An individual’s characteristic emotional and motivational nature” (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 6). Personality psychologists have studied the ways in which biology has an influence over this, many citing the nervous system and neurotransmitters as having imperative significance. Neurotransmitters are “the chemicals nerves use to communicate”, dopamine and serotonin being just two of importance (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 108). If a deficiency, or overabundance, of these transmitters exists within an individual, direct influences on temperament can be viewed. Through individual variations within the nervous system and neurotransmitters, each person’s temperament is affected in different ways, producing unique effects on one’s personality. Neurotransmitters According to Eysenck, “extroverts have a relatively low level of brain arousal, and so they seek stimulation… introverts, on the other hand… have a higher level of central nervous system arousal, and so they tend to shy away from stimulating social environments” (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 106). “Sensation seekers”, who “seem to have a strong, nervous system–based, orienting response… [seemingly] biologically primed to seek out and engage their environments” (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 108). Examples Examples Mental Illness Mental Illness Of the many different mental disorders known to man, many come to fruition through biological tendencies, specifically Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and Depression. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), schizophrenia can be characterized by “delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech and behavior, and other symptoms that cause social or occupational dysfunction” (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Biologically, “many studies have confirmed that schizophrenia tends to run in families… [meaning] if one has a schizophrenic parent, the odds of schizophrenia rise dramatically” (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 114). Researchers also found that “if one has a schizophrenic identical twin, the odds approach 50–50 of developing” the ailment (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 114). Schizophrenia Schizophrenia Bipolar Disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is described as “swing[ing] regularly from wildly enthusiastic energy to hopelessly dark depression” (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 114). In a study conducted between identical twins, it was found that if one twin suffered from Bipolar Disorder, “then the identical twin [was] also very likely to suffer [from] this disorder” (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 115). Bipolar Disorder Bipolar Disorder Depression, according to the DSM-5, “ affects how you feel, think and behave causing persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities… [and] can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems” (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Those with a variation in the, “mu opioid receptor gene (OPRM1)... were more sensitive to social rejection... and that this social pain could be seen in the region of the brain that generally processes physical pain”, demonstrating how biology and the environment can bring about mental illness, and ultimately, effect one’s personality (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 115). Depression Depression Sexuality Sexuality Much like studies done in regards to mental illness, analysis was conducted on family members of homosexuals, finding that “homosexuality tends to run in families, and mono-zygotic twins [were] more likely than dizygotic twins to have the same sexual preference” (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 116). According to researchers, “part of the brain’s anterior hypothalamus, known to be related to sexual behavior, significantly differs in gay men...and the hypothalamus reacts differently to sexual smells in gay versus straight men...and in lesbian versus straight women” (Friedman, et. al., 2016, p. 116). Conclusion Conclusion Temperament, mental illness, and sexuality are all influential aspects of one’s personality. Through extensive analysis of these components of one’s character, it is evident that biological forces play an imperative role in the ways and proclivity in which they uniquely present themselves, ultimately manipulating personality as a whole. Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Transcript: CIARRA'S PROFILE This includes, but is not limited to, my dogs and general things in nature. I actually used to walk around outside taking pictures of random things that I found interesting and I would bring a water bottle with me because if I wanted something to have more ‘jazz’ I would just drizzle some water on it. Worked like a charm. PHOTOGRAPHY FACT 1 PHOTOS I have two dogs named Achilles and Tsum. We got Achilles around a year ago and Tsum almost eight months ago. Achilles is a purebred husky whereas Tsum is a german shepherd. Both of them are very near and dear to me, especially Tsum. Tsum's birthday is October 22nd and Achilles' birthday is June 1st. ACHILLES AND TSUM FACT 2 ACHILLES TSUM I genuinely love these flowers. A lot of it stems from my mother, because they were her favorite flowers, but I also really love their positive vibes. I mean, who wouldn’t feel glorious after thinking about a flower that literally turns towards the sun to survive? That’s a hefty will to live, I’ll give the flower that. I also just like the soft, golden-yellow aesthetic from the flower. It makes for such a soothing and relaxing palette. SUNFLOWERS FACT 3 In general, I’ve always been a fan of the creepy crawlies; I used to chase bugs under rocks and then proceed to upturn every rock in the yard searching for little pill bugs. I like centipedes and millipedes although if I ever come into contact with either, I want to burn them with fire respectively. BUGS FACT 4 Pretty self explanatory. I just like it a lot when it rains or when a very extreme storm hits the county. I find a lot of comfort in listening to the rain hit the roof outside and, honestly, sometimes I have to listen to rain sounds to help me sleep at night. RAIN FACT 5 I don’t know why but I just really like the idea of being scared and having that little adrenaline rush for a movie; the anticipation of an attack, the ominous music and setting. Everything just feels so thrilling. I guess romances and romantic-comedies aren’t that far behind but I just favor horrors above all else and love curling up on the couch to a good horror movie. HORROR FACT 6 I'm not nearly as obsessive over astrology and star signs as other people, although it does interest me. Without much else to give and me running off of random facts about myself, I'm a cancer. ZODIAC FACT 7 I’ve always been surrounded by animals in my life and ever since my old dog, Apache, and his brother, Bracket, suffered through parvovirus I was set on working towards becoming a vet student and preparing for it. VETERINARIAN FACT 8 A full story of what happened is that, essentially, my dog got sick with a disease that honestly should have killed him. Ultimately, while he was sitting on his deathbed, he ended up pulling through. It truly was amazing to me to be able to watch him get better and see how he improved from a walking corpse to the healthy dog he had been before everything. This inspired me to finally come to terms with the fact that I, for sure, want to be a veterinarian. STORY I really like raw seafood and have had raw, cleaned fish before with some kind of sauce with it. It was a couple of years ago but it was super great. More obviously, I like sushi and all kinds of other weird stuff like squid and mussel. Although those two things aren't usually raw. SUSHI FACT 9 Almost unsurprisingly to every person I know, my favorite color is black. Aside from everything edgy in relation to it, I actually like it because if I stained it somehow with a liquid, it wouldn't show like on lighter colors. Due to how much I like black, it makes up a majority of my clothes. BLACK FACT 10
