Transcript: FOCUS Program Presentation DATE: 9/15/2022 Presented by Portia Howard, RW Prog. Coordinator Disclaimer "FOCUS funding supports HIV, HCV, and HBV screening and linkage to a first appointment. FOCUS partners do not use FOCUS awards for activities beyond linkage to a first appointment. Partners may mention activities conducted without the support of FOCUS during presentations.” Workflows Standard & Rapid testing Workflows Standard HepC & HIV HepC HepC Continued HIV screening and linkage HepC POC POC HepC & HIV HIV POC HIV POC Questions Questions Q1. Q1. Experience of being a part of this FOCUS collaborative? Answer. Overall positive. Encouraged us to evaluate and re-evaluate processes to become more efficient. Ability to hear what other agencies are doing, gaining ideas and implementing new strategies. Increased knowledge through training series and case studies. Q2. Q2. Review of processes before starting FOCUS compared to now? o Pre-FOCUS Optimus had already adopted standard screening that included HIV/AIDS and HepC. FOCUS has been complimentary to enhancing our integrative care model. With the help of FOCUS, Optimus has improved data collection such as creating SQL dashboards. o Formalizing policies and procedures specific to HIV/AIDS and HepC testing and linkage to care on an organizational level. o Auto alerts for new positives Q3. lessons learned from participating in the FOCUS program Q3. o The logistical hurdles of expanding testing sites: operations, planning and documentation. o Inadvertently over testing – In our annual screening labs, providers have a pre-checked list of lab screenings and if Hep C is not unchecked those who do not need this annual testing will automatically get it. Q4. Review of data Q4. o Due to lack of historical FOCUS data we are not currently able to fully analysis data for trends. However, in 2021 our estimated average monthly testing for HIV was 200 and HCV monthly test averaged 80. o 2021 - New HIV diagnosis total 5. HepC new dx was 10 (9 - Hx of of IVDU: 1 - Unknown contration). o 2022 Bi-annual - New HIV+ total 5. HepC new cases total 2 (both hx IVDU). Note: All new diagnosis were from standard screenings and none from POC testing. Q5. Impact of telehealth? Q5. o Telehealth has allowed additional flexibility, which in turn increased treatment compliance and accessibility. In general, FOCUS program has impowered our Ryan White program and our organization. It helped solidify testing and linkage along with improved data management and reporting. First topic Mise en Place Second topic Recipe Place a pizza stone on a rack in the lower third of your oven. Preheat the oven to 475°F for at least 30 minutes, preferably an hour. If you don't have a pizza stone, you can use a pizza pan or a thick baking sheet; you need something that will not warp at high temperatures.Remove the plastic cover from the dough. Dust your hands with flour and push the dough down so it deflates a bit. Divide the dough in half.Form 2 round balls of dough. Place each in its own bowl, cover with plastic and let sit for 15 minutes (or up to 2 hours. Prepare your desired toppings. Note that you are not going to want to load up each pizza with a lot of toppings as the crust will end up not crisp that way.About a third a cup each of tomato sauce and cheese would be sufficient for one pizza. One to two mushrooms thinly sliced will cover a pizza.Working one ball of dough at a time, take one ball of dough and flatten it with your hands on a lightly floured work surface.Starting at the center and working outwards, use your fingertips to press the dough to 1/2-inch thick. Use your fingertips to press down and make dents along the surface of the dough to prevent bubbling. Brush the top of the dough with olive oil (to prevent it from getting soggy from the toppings). Let rest another 10 to 15 minutes.Lightly sprinkle your pizza peel (or flat baking sheet) with cornmeal. (The corn meal will act as little ball bearings to help move the pizza from the pizza peel into the oven.)Spoon on the tomato sauce, sprinkle with cheese, and place your desired toppings on the pizza. Be careful not to overload the pizza with too many toppings, or your pizza will be soggy.Bake pizza in the 475°F oven, one at a time, until the crust is browned and the cheese is golden, about 10 to 15 minutes. If you want, toward the end of the cooking time you can sprinkle on a little more cheese. Here's a place for the second part of your presentation. What is Sex Trafficking? What is Trafficking? Let's Dive Deeper Let's Dive Deeper! In order for a situation or circumstance to be classified as trafficking it has to fall under at least two of these three categories: Coercion: threats of serious harm psychological manipulation shame and fear induces threats Force: physical harm physical restraint sexual assualt confinedment Fraud: false promises of work, wages, or living conditions withholding wages contract fraud Pop Culture's Influence Pop Culture's Influence Pop culture glorifes, glamorizes, and endorses commerical sex and sex trafficking. We have become so desensitized to an issue that enslaves so many around the world. Some examples include: music, movies, books, fashion, jokes, common sayings; just to name a few Pimp Culture One of the most popular terms that pop culture has glamorized is the term "pimp". Many rappers use it in their song lyrics. It celebrates, glamorizes, and normalizes a lifestyle of people who as a whole control, dominate, degrade, devalue, subjugate, and brutally abuse women physically and psychologically. Why Is This Important? Why Is This Important? A quote from Exodus Cry, "Though sex trafficking is a deeply disturbing injustice, its existence is not all that shocking in light of the way much of our world views sexuality." The mindset of "sex sells" is a driving force behind the commercial sex industry. Not pushing the boundraies of stigmas and stereotypes only makes combating sex trafficking harder. Women aren't objects that are to be bought one day and to be discared the next. So What's the Soultion? So What's the Soultion? We have to make conscious changes in order to set counter culture. We need to is see the value and humanity of the individual. Let the cycle stop with you! Actively choose to change your mindset. We need to have the boldness to lovingly challenge other's way of thinking. Create and support laws that bring freedom to victims. Power in numbers! Change starts when we all come together. Transcript: Quotation #3 That's what fiction is about, isn't it, the selective transforming of reality? The twisting of it to bring out its essence?" If Pi's story is a fiction, or even a lie, how might it contain deeper meaning by bending the facts? Quotation #1 Quotation #4 Quotation #2 Which story would you most likely to believe? and why? Quotation #5 Question #1 "God is everything" God is the center of life and reason. Religion is very important in the explanation of why the world is. In religion they worship God and pray to Him for hope, forgiveness etc. Pi asked what story the news reporters prefer Mr Okamoto said the one that is more interesting That's not always the really story Fiction often makes stories better but Pi is insistent that, the one with the animals is real People often have difficulty believe if something is fact or fiction. In the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel, there are many times that the argument of fact vs. fiction was portrayed. Is there really a God or does science rule over religion? Was the first story Pi told real or was the accurate story the one he told the news reporters? Would a trauma that someone experiences make them loss some kind of innocents? why? "when I was your age. I lived in a bed, racked with polio. I asked myself everyday, "where is God?" God never came. It wasn't God who saved me- it was medicine. Reason is my prophet and it tells me that as a watch stops, so we die." (1.7.16) 'So tell me, since it makes no factual difference to you and you can't prove the question either way, which story do you prefer? Which is the better story, the story with animals or the story without animals?' Mr. Okamoto: 'That's an interesting question?' Mr. Chiba: 'The story with animals.' Mr. Okamoto: 'Yes. The story with animals is the better story.' Pi Patel: 'Thank you. And so it goes with God.'" page 317 Why do you think people question if there is a God? Question #2 "Is that better? Are there any parts you find hard to believe? Anything you'd like me to change?" -page 345 Quotation #3 Quotation #5 By: Marie-Claire Towie There is something inhuman about this story people go thought these traumatic experiences Something inside of Pi is lost from this tragedy Supporting key words: selective reality lie bending In the novel, there is many time that fiction and reality is questioned. Is there really a God or is it mostly science based and what story is true? In the book both ends of the spectrum are analyzed and give great reasoning for both. Thesis Quotation #2 Conclusion Life of Pi : Fact vs Fiction Pi implies that he can change the story But was the story completely true Pi can be hiding the truth because of this experiences. Japanese news reporters find the first story hard to believe "When I corrected her, I told her that in fact she was not so wrong; that Hindus, in their capacity for love, are indeed hairless Christians, just as Muslims, in the way they see God in everything, are bearded Hindus, and Christians, in their devotion to God, are hat-wearing Muslims." (1.16.6) Question #3 Quotation #4 where is God in these troubling times? Many people pray but they don't get better Science healed him not God He is questioning his faith, because God isn't listening to him Quotation #1 This was the terrible cost of Richard Parker. He gave me a life, my own, but at the expense of taking one. He ripped the flesh off the man's frame and cracked his bones. The smell of blood filled my nose. Something in me died then that has never come back to life." page 255 Key words: Transformation: to make a dramatic change in appearance, form and character. Twisting: distort or change the meaning of words or phrases. Fiction: a statement or belief that is false. Meaning: meant by a word, action, text, or concept.
