Sounds pie in the sky? So did the vote for women. So did the abolition of slavery. So did the decriminalization of homosexuality. So did laws against child labour. So did an 8-hour work day and a 5-day work week. Every good idea started with a handful of committed people who were called crazy, unrealistic, and worse. They were attacked, vilified, spat on, dismissed and ridiculed. Some were murdered. They were accused of shaking the foundations of society and heralding an economic collapse. Instead, economies grew by leaps and bounds with increased rights for citizens, as women piled into the paid workforce, as more people had money in their pockets with which to fuel the market. Fortunately for most of us, that handful of "crazy" people stood firm. Our duty is to continue where they left off, as social justice is still a far-away goal for many women in Canada and around the world. Transcript: The National Organization for women (NOW) was made up of upper and middle class white women who pushed for better representation of women in the government and were responsible for Title IX which made the government spend equally on male and female education and sports. Radical Feminism Post Modern feminists were a part of the third wave of feminism that supports the idea of no difference between men and women. They also fight for equality between men and women and an end to gender discrimination. Social/Marxist Feminists were also a part of second wave of feminism. They were concerned with the equal rights of women in the work force and at home. They claimed that the gender inequalities in and out of the work place were causing dependence and a lower class for women. After decades of activism including marches, letters, picketing, lobbying etc. the 19th amendment was made law in the year 1920 and women were allowed to vote for the first time in the United States of America First Wave I am a post modern feminist because i believe in equality and do not think that gender should inhibit anyone female or male. There are many different types of feminism but one common unifying goal is for equality between men and women. Some Radical feminists even encouraged the celebration of women as having good and useful qualities better than men. A major goal of many third wave feminists is to appreciate the steps that feminists before had taken to give us the rights that we have today. Post Modern Feminism “one is not born a woman, but becomes one" Cultural feminists are a part of the second wave of feminists 1960-Now. They believe that men and women are different and that women's culture and history should be respected. Also that issues pertaining to women should be for women to decide for example women's health and reproductive rights. The third wave of feminism is the modern feminism it has many different faces. Women and men of the third wave can act dress or be employed however they choose. Just like society today modern feminists are the most diverse and hold the most diverse ideas. The parade went to Washington DC ,all the way to Pennsylvania Avenue. Well, feminism didn't exactly had a voice during the late 1800's. In 1840, Elisabeth Cady Stanton accompanied her husband to an anti-slavery convention in London, England she and Lucretia Mott who also atteneded to the meeting was surprized that the women were not allowed to attend. We all know the dictionary definition of feminism by now, but we also know that it means a lot more than just those 16 words. Everyone has had a different experience with feminism, and everyone has their own definition for it. Freedom for our daughters is looking to build a collection of pictures and stories and quotes from people, feminists, around the world, so that we can all get a comprehensive global definition of feminism, and what it means to us. We're looking to break down the walls and stereotypes of the word and the movement, and we're looking for some help Our mission is to build safe housing and schools for girls in developing countries where young women are stripped of their rights simply because they are girls. On a local scale, we foster a safe space for youth to talk about issues surrounding gender inequalities in our monthly meetings.
