Now it is the world’s largest hot desert at over 3,630,000 square miles—roughly the size of the United States. Antarctica is considered the largest desert (of any type) in the world. Ancient Egyptian women had more rights and privileges than most other women in the ancient world. For example, they could own property, carry out business deals, and initiate divorce. Transcript: Pyramids were huge structures that were burial tombs for pharoahs. Pyramids had storage rooms, courtyards, secret passage ways, and all kinds of fancy traps to catch robbers who tried to steal artifacts. Grave robbers knew excatly where the pharaohs were buried, and they knew exactly were to find riches and wealth. if you were caught , the penalty for grave robbing was death. Hieroglyphics The Sphinx The Book of the dead The End PYRAMIDS The best way the ancient Egyptians knew how to preserve a body was to mummify it. The poor people placed the dead bodies of the people they knew out in the sun, in the sand and The bodies mummified naturally. If could afford it went to a professional mummy maker. The main reason they did this was because they believed that they needed their bodies in the afterlife. Art Craftsman were very hard workers and derserved more respect than they actually did. Craftsmen were not allowed to sign their work That's because several craftsmen might work on one object. But even when only one artist worked on something, they still could not sign it. A craftsman with skill usually enjoyed a very comfortable lifestyle. Although their work was not signed, word did get around. The Egyptians had a unique way of drawing people. • They drew heads, eyes, legs and feet positioned as if you were looking at them from the side. • They drew the shoulders and the chest as if you were looking at them from the front. • Men were usually drawn with dark colors. • Women were usually drawn with light colors. Mummification The Book of the Dead is not a book. It's a nickname for a bunch of different magical spells written down in various ways by the ancient Egyptians. Everyone in ancient Egypt wanted to safely reach the afterlife. They believed the afterlife was a real place, and they believed magical spells would help them get there. Over 5000 years ago, the ancient egyptians wrote things down using a picture writing called hieroglyphics. The people who did the actual writing were called scribes. They created a new form of writing called demotic script. The new scribes did not study the old language of hieroglyphics. Hundreds of years later, archaeologists discovered beautiful hieroglyphic writing on the walls of ancient egyptian pyramids and tombs. It is located in giza where it guards the front of khafras pyramid. Some people even believe that there are hidden passage ways or rooms under neath the great sphinx, but nothing has been found.
