Transcript: Military Requirements Members In addition to protecting our nation’s waterways, the 43,062 active-duty members of the Coast Guard perform search and rescue, law enforcement and environmental cleanup operations. Coast Guard The Branch Currently, the Coast Guard operates under the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime and under the Navy during wartime, or by special presidential order. this branch was found on August 4, 1790. Guidelines/ New Recruits Basic Training takes place at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, N.J., and lasts for eight weeks. Daily fitness and swimming drills combined with classroom instruction prepare recruits mentally and physically for life in the Coast Guard. - Must be 17 with parental consent or 18 without parental consent. - Physical requirements vary greatly. These differences can vary even within each branch of the Service. - Success in any branch of the Military depends on a good education, and a high school diploma is most desirable.

Transcript: My career goal currently is to become a United States Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, I choose this career because I enjoy the raging waters and the and helping others in time of need. I have also shared a personal experience with the Coast Guard. Some of those sacrifices would include: Will I have to spend money on tuition instead of clothes or recreation? Do the rewards make the sacrifices and commitments seem more worthwhile? What are some things that could make you give up your goal? I what to be remember as to how I lived, not how I died. I want people to remember me as an sucessful person, someone who was a hardworker and who you could count on. I want to be a role model for younger generations. Someone who was happy with there life and never took a day for grante. Someone who can make you smile and have a shoulder to cry on. Someone that will give you there all until they break and fall. Not having alot of free time. Very limited Social Networking. Not seeing friends/ family alot. Getting rewarded for my Duties To have better grades. Improving my knoweledge about the Coast Guard. Improving my Mental and Physical Skills including my stamina. Some of the commitments I will have to make are: What are some of the commitments I will have to make in order to reach my goal? To study every night before ending the day. To workout on a daliy bases. To always be prepared, because anything can happen. Yes I will, this includes friendships and social networking. What is my career goal and why would I choose it? Will I have to give up some social activity? Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer By Jenna Crockett There are very few things that would make me give up this career path. Sucess is when you accomplish your dreams threw your heart and wouldnt regret a mistake you made because it lead you to this moment. My personal definition: Define Sucess? What are some sacrifices I might have to make in order to achieve my goal? The biggest reason would be family. My family life will always come before anyone or anything including my career. Family life will always be the top excuse. My second excuse is the risks that come with this career, including death. (this can mean drowning while trying to save someone, frezzing to death when hypothymia takes control of the body in the frigid waters of Alaska ect.) And my third excuse, is if I were Physically handicap and could'nt have met the physical requirments to this career. No, the Coast Guard including any other Military service will pay for full tuition. What are some rewards you hope to gain from making the commmitments and sacrifices? How can I overcome each of these excuses I listed? Yes I believe they do, when you are rewarded for something, you become more confident in what you do. And the commitments and sarcrifices will make more of a challenge but in the long run it will pay off and the hard work will be revealed. 1) Tell my family that this is the life style I would like to grow in for my career years. 2) Do research on the risks and how to manuver about them. 3) To find a different career option in the Coast Guard or work around my disability and find a new method to my situation. Where you take charge of situations, where your decisions can make a difference between life or death. This is a job like no other. All applicants must provide a qualifying score on the SAT, ACT, or ASVAB. No waivers will be considered. Minimum qualifying scores are as follows... SAT Reasoning Test: Combined 1100 on Mathematics and Critical Reading. SAT (taken prior to 1 April 1995): Combined 1000 on Mathematics and Verbal. ACT: 23. ASVAB: 109 on ASVAB General Technical (GT) Aptitude Area after 1 July 2004; 110 prior to 1 July 2004. The GT score is obtained by combining the VE (Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension) and AR (Arithmetic Reasoning) test scores. Physical: A full medical screening will be conducted in accordance with your application. Educational Qualifications: Reserve Commission Applicants must be in their senior year or hold a bachelor or higher degree from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.5. When you get out of school you go to Officer Candidate School (OCS). The OCS is a rigorous course of instruction which prepares candidates to serve effectively as officers in the United States Coast Guard. In addition to instructing students into a military lifestyle, OCS also provides a range of highly technical information. All full-time enlisted Coast Guardmen entering the Coast Guard make a little over $15,000 for their first year of service, plus they are entitled to other allowances depending on their status. As an active-duty member of the Coast Guard, you'll be privy to a benefits package that is largely unheard of for most people just starting out.
