Clean Energy

Transcript: Clean Energy What do you guys think clean energy is? Clean energy may also be called renewable energy or green energy and it specifically refers to energy produced usually from renewable resources without creating environmental debt. There are several other ways such clean energy can be defined. It some cases it may refer to energy processes that pollute less, or it can be considered only energy that doesn’t pollute at all and doesn’t use resources that can’t be easily renewed. There are several different types of renewable energy, the main types are hydropower, wind energy, biomass, solar power, and geothermal power. Hydropower Wind Power The U.S. is the leading country in wind power. Wind turbines don't give off any pollution like the fossil fuels do. Unlike fossil fuels, biomass power plants burn bio fuel to heat water and run steam turbines. Bio fuel is the fermentation of sugars from wheat, sugar cane , and molasses Considered to be one of the key renewable resources. Biofuels already supply 14% of the worlds energy consumption. Geothermal energy is thermal energy generated and stored in the earth. Around 70 countries around the world use geothermal energy. The U.S. is the leading country in using geothermal energy. The U.S. has 77 geothermal powerplants. Geothermal power now makes up 18% of the countries energy. Solar Power The PV panels that supplies the power from the sun can last between 30-40 years. Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Solar power supplies less than 1% of power to the U.S. every year. Hydropower is generated using the mechanical energy of flowing water by forcing it through piping called a penstock, which then turns a generator in order to produce electricity. Water power also consists of wave and tidal energy, which are both in the infant stage of research, as scientists try to discover how to harness the energy produced from movement of the ocean. Iowa is the second largest wind energy producer in the U.S. What do you guys think renewable energy is? The next type of power is wind energy. Biomass Hydropower is about 73% of all the nations renewable energy Geothermal Power

Popular game templates include: Family Feud Millionaire Jeopardy and other quiz shows. http://www.free-power-point-templates.com/deal-powerpoint-template/ Quick video on template "Millionaire" PowerPoint Games Some games are easier to make compared to others If users are unsure whether or not downloading certain templates is safe, you can actually make your own game by just simply using PowerPoint. add logo here References Example of a Family Feud Template PowerPoint Games are a great way to introduce new concepts and ideas You can create a fun, competitive atmosphere with the use of different templates You can change and rearrange information to correlate with the topic or idea being discussed. Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Transcript: Clean Energy By Andres Morales What do we use Electricity For 10 Things We Use Electricity For 1.Computer 2.iphone 3.Printer 4.Radiator 5.Stove 6.Television 7.ipad 8.ipod Touch 9.PSP 10.Xbox We use electricity for almost everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is Clean Energy Important?... for the Earth? it effects Global Warming (The warming of the Earth) And... it reduces the pollution of everything on Earth for your Family? it will be better for your Lungs to breathe clean air than dirty air Nonrenewable energy About 93% of the energy consumed in the US are from nonrenewable energy sorces Nonrenewable energy is energy that cannot be reused or renewed these are some of the nonrenewable types of energy is a fossil fuel oil (petroleum) the top producing state is Texas Uranium (nuclear) is energy from atoms Natural gas is a fossil fuel there was a natral gas well at Wagon Wheel Coal is a fossil fuel there are 4 types of coal Anthracite accounts for less than0.5% of the coal mined in the U.S. it contains 86-97% cardon, and generally has a heating value slightly higher than bituminous coal all mines are located in Northeastern Pensylvania Bitumious it contains 45-86% carbon, & importat for the steel & iorn industries West Virginia Kentuky, and Pennsylvania are the largest producers of bituminous coal Subbituminous has a lower heating value than bituminious coal, contains 35-45% carbon About 46%of the coal produced in the U.S. is subbituminous coal Wyoming is the leading sorce of subbituminous coal Lignite is the lowest rank of coal with the lowest energy content has 25-35% carbon Most of it is mined in Texas and North Dakoda Renewable energy combined provide 7% of the energy used in the United States Biomass is a renewable energy because we can always grow more trees and croops and waste will always exist Solar Solar Panels are what catch the light from the sun and turn it into energy it is a renewable type of energy because the sun will not explode until tens and thousands of years Geothermal geo means eartrh (GEOthermal) + therme means heat(geoTHERMAL)= GEOTHERMAL geothermal energy is a renewable type of energy because the heat is continuously produced inside the earth Wind Wind Turbines are what make the wind get turned into energy Wind Energy relise on the Wind Cycle a group of wind turbines are called wind farms Hydropower Hydropower is the renewable energy sorce that produces the most electricity in the United States the Hoover Dam is a Hydropower Dam it produces hydropower How to Save Energy You save energy by... turning off the lights using less air conditioning turn of the TV while not in use turn the water off while not in use use renewable types of energy And... don'tuse too much of the nonrenewable types of energy The End!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Types of Biomass Wood Crops Garbage Landfill Gas Alcohol fuel it effects the enviorment because if we use all of the resorces it that are nonrenewable, nature willnever have it again or it will take tens and thousands of years is organic material made from plants and animals

CLEAN ENERGY

Transcript: Geothermal Energy We can recover geothermal energy by drilling deep holes into the earths crust pumping cold water through one end and then by the time it rises back to the surface the water can be hundreds of degrees Celsius which we then use as steam to drive a turbine which drives a generator creating power. Adavantages • Geothermal energy is one of the best natural energies around. • Geothermal system does not create any pollution. • The overall financial aspect of these plants is outstanding, you only need to provide power to the water pumps, which can be generated by the power plant itself anyway. • The cost of the land to build a geothermal power plant on, is usually less expensive than if you were planning to construct an. Disvantages • To extract the heat we have to find certain hot spots within the earths crust, these are very common around volcanos and fault lines, • A site that has happily been extracting steam and turning it into power for many years, may suddenly stop producing steam. • Developers of such sites must be careful and aware that in some cases, harmful gases can escape from deep within the earth, through the holes drilled by the constructors. Hydropower TODAY Hydropower is the renewable energy source that produces the most electricity in the United States. It accounted for 6% of total U.S. electricity generation and 60% of generation from renewables in 2010. HOW DOES IT WORK? ADVANTAGES - Availability - Clean energy - Its operating costs are low, and technological improvement makes you take efficiently the available water resources. - Flow control in flood risk controls. DISADVANTAGES - The construction and implementation requires significant investment. - Dams become insurmountable obstacles for species like salmon; they have to ascend rivers to spawn. - Reservoirs affect the channels, causing erosion, and affect the overall ecosystem. Is energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable. Today, we are looking again at renewable sources to find new ways to use them to help meet our energy needs. The use of renewable fuels is expected to continue to grow over the next 30 years, although EIA projects that we will still rely on non-renewable fuels to meet most of our energy needs.
