Black and white photography

Transcript: This is a photoset that I created at pride last year. When I saw the stairs I knew I wanted to do something with all my friends on them. My brother is the one taking the photographs, and I set up the shots. In the first one We were all sitting in different spots pretending to not know each other. In the secound one all the girls are pointing at Anthony tying his shoes, and the last one we all ran over to him and hugged him for a group photo. If I were to do this again I would like to have a tripod to keep the photos all in the same position. My brother shifted between each photo. This is a photograph I took of Anthony's shadow while he held a balloon on his 16th birthday. I named it "the lonely boy" because something about it feels quite melancholy and isolated. I think this theme is enhanced by the black and white, which eliminated the yellow balloon and road line. I increased the contrast but the shadow still retained a bit of the texture of the road, which gives this piece more depth than just a silhouette piece. Courtney Black and white photography Descriptions Fruit Angles The interesting thing about the strawberries is they still retain their familiar texture, when I look at them I can't but feel something is off. I decided to convert this photo to not only test out the look of the strawberries, but also because I thought the granite surface would give it some attractive depth. I've never considered converting fruit photographs to black and white because one of the huge appeals to me is their vibrant colours. I decided to give it a try and found the results very interesting. I thought the photograph of the apples (Left) looked interesting when I changed it to black and white. I made the reds very dark and increased the contrast and suddenly the outside of the apple looked black and the inside looks dirty almost rotten. Black and White Emotions I took the photo (left) standing above Courtney as she laid on the ground. I love this shot because it's a different perspective and also her hair looks awesome. By converting this photograph to black and white the horrible yellow light the tinted this piece is gone, no longer a distraction. If I were to do it again knowing I would convert it to black and white I would get her to wear a darker shirt, to contrast with her face more. It may be spring but the leaves haven't yet returned to all of the trees. I found this cluster of bare branches and I thought they looked sharp and sinister. Converting it to black and white made all the bright greens in the background into shades of grey, making this look like a winter scene. The use of a smaller f-stop on the macro setting blurred the background leaving the foreground branches in focus. Colour Splash Pride
