Transcript: By: Bethsaida Sandoval Intro Introduction At Abilene Christian University, their passionate search for all of God’s truth is so important and immense that it requires all of us. Whether you take classes on campus or online, you’ll find ACU’s programs allow you to not only open doors to new opportunities, but open arms to embrace your classmates unique perspectives. Who we are Mission:ACU's mission is to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world. Promise:ACU is a vibrant, innovative, Christ-centered community that engages students in authentic spiritual and intellectual growth, equipping them to make a real difference in the world. Who We Are History ACU has been innovating since 1906 A.B. Barret and Charles Roberson decided to build a school in West Texas. In 1905, Barret, a teacher at Southwestern Christian College in Denton, struck an agreement with Col. J.W. Childers, a leader in the Abilene church, to buy land from him at a reduced price on the condition that the school would be named in his honor. The Childers Classical Institute, offering 11 primary and secondary grades, opened its doors in Fall 1906 with 25 students enrolled for classes. Since the beginning, the institute had been commonly referred to as Abilene Christian or the Christian college in Abilene. ACC officially became ACU on Feb. 22, 1976, by a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees. History Enrollment Students have to verify their enrollment, because companies such as insurance agencies, credit issuers, or housing providers may require you to prove you are a full-time student in order to qualify for some kind of benefit or discount. To obtain your verification, ACU works with the National Student Clearinghouse to provide proof of enrollment at no charge to you. Enrollment certification data is sent to the Clearinghouse by ACU's Registrar's Office two weeks before each semester. Enrollment certifications prior to that time may not show accurate enrollment status. The National Student Clearinghouse website provides: -A printed Enrollment Certificate which may be sent to any agency which may request this information. This shows only enrollment status (Full Time or Half Time). Grades or GPA information will not be included. -Information about enrollment verifications that have been sent to businesses or other service providers -A view of your enrollment history -A view of deferments sent to lenders -Lists of prospective lenders -Links to real time Student Loan Information Enrollment Selectiveness They're all on God’s Earth together, and Abilene Christian University is doing its part to conserve energy and resources on our little corner of the planet. With an average energy reduction of 20% and our community recycling nearly 54 tons of plastic, cardboard and newspaper, ACU is adding some green to our purple. ACU Green’s mission is to: -Promote a culture of sustainability and sustainable practices -Promote prudent stewardship of resources -Ensure that future generations of ACU students can enjoy God’s creation -When you arrive on campus, you’ll see many green initiatives in action and many others are behind-the-scenes. Our sustainability efforts include conserving energy with efficient HVAC, plumbing and lighting systems and saving on fuel by using electric carts on campus rather than full-size vehicles. Selectiveness Strenghts Diversity is a description of the way God created people. Understanding and respecting individuals who are different from one's self, whether racially, socially, ideologically or spiritually, is a natural outcome of understanding the vast diversity of God's creation. At ACU, The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) oversees student groups on campus that focus on multicultural diversity. OMA sponsors a number of programs and events that promote and showcase cultural diversity on campus. The mission of OMA is to enrich the holistic development of each student by encouraging them to recognize and embrace the uniqueness of their personal culture while valuing the culture of others. Strenghts Sports Programs ACU athletes compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports for men and women. A member of theSouthland Conference, the Wildcats have won more team national championships than all but four universities in the nation. Student-athletes compete at the highest levels of intercollegiate competition. Many former Wildcats have gone to have notable careers in the NFL, on the PGA and international golf tours, and as Olympians.
