While receiving the treatment, some of the patients might experience a temporary drop in blood pressure levels, i.e. suffer from low blood pressure, along with fatigue. In rare cases, the blood pressure might drop to the point that the patient ends up fainting also. The use of electro-stimulators in acupuncture might result in nerve damage, especially if the electricity is passed on for extended periods of time or is set at a high frequency. It is true? According to Traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating these points can correct imbalances in the flow of qi through channels known as meridians. Scientific research has not found any histological or physiological correlates for qi, meridians and acupuncture points, and some contemporary practitioners needle the body without using the traditional theoretical framework. Form of treatment that involves sticking needles into specific spots in someone's skin, at various depths, to cure a large array of diseases, injuries and overall pain. Treatment Cost and Effectiveness Costs And Effectiveness Cost -typical cost is $75 to $90 -routine visits are usually $50 to $70 -one session is usually 30 minutes, not too time consuming for busy people Effectiveness- by statistics Multiple studies show that it is effective when reducing pain in pressure points in the tissue. Transcript: Acupuncture is an originally Chinese practice of inserting fine needles through the skin at specific points especially to cure disease or relieve pain (as in surgery) Does getting treated with Acupuncture really releave pain more efficiently then the standard back pain medication? Hypothesis: There will be little to no difference in pain relief experienced by the first two groups while the third group will experience positive results. In our study there are three groups of four people. In each group there will be 2 male and 2 female subjects, all experiencing back pain. Group one will recieve legitamite acupuncture treatment. Group two will be recieving false acupuncture with toothpicks used to administer the treatment instead of needles. The subjects will recieve light pressure with the toothpicks simulating the acupuncture needles. Group three (the control) will be recieving back pain medication in order to verify that the pain experienced by the participants is curable. Acupuncture needles GROUP 2: (Placebo) Toothpicks A substance that has no therapeutic effect, used as a control in testing new drugs. GROUP 3: (Control) Standard back pain medication Confirming Results: If the first and second group felt no relief or had slightly varied results while the third group unanimouslyexperienced relief, the test results would be confirmed Disconfirming results: If all participants in all three groups reported similar results or the third group experienced no results and the first two group experienced successful results, the test would be disconfirmed Acupuncture GROUP 1: By Dakota Graham, Taylor Bradshaw, and Trevor Nunley This test cannot be conducted as a double blind study, due to the fact that the patients must be informed that it is a physical treatment to the body.
